Bump Yarn
BUMP YARN
Cotton yam below 4's counts, that is, where less than 4 X 840 = 3,360 yards weigh 1-lb. The counts are denoted by the number of yards per ounce. Thus 60 yards per ounce = 60's bump. They are waste yarns and usually spun from cop waste and the waste picked out of sweepings. Another system of counting is the number of yards per quarter ounce, but this method is not as much practised as the yards per ounce.
